Taxable Bond Index Funds
Index funds generally don’t try to beat the market by opportunistically buying or selling securities. Rather, they invest the assets of the fund or ETF to mirror the construction of an index, giving investors a way to gain exposure to a specific part of the markets. Index funds generally have lower relative costs compared with actively managed offerings. Bonds are best thought of as a loan a company has taken out with investors. Investors buy the bonds anticipating an interest payment from the company and ultimate payback of the amount borrowed. Bond funds buy multiple bonds in a portfolio and tend to focus on type of borrower, such as local or national governments and corporations.
