Scientific Games Reports Weak 1Q

Instant lottery ticket provider Scientific Games SGMS reported lackluster first-quarter results. Compared with the year-ago quarter, revenue declined 6% to $216 million because of a confluence of factors. Top-line growth, stemming from new instant ticket contracts and favorable foreign exchange rates, was more than offset by contract terminations and lower racing, phone cards, lottery systems, and hardware sales. However, operating income increased more than 65% from the year-ago quarter, to $21 million, primarily because of lower depreciation, amortization, and stock-based compensation expenses.
