InterDigital Awarded Another Injunction Against Disney

  InterDigital said it has been awarded another injunction against Disney, marking the third of such instances. 



  The ruling comes after InterDigital launched litigation against Disney last year, alleging the entertainment company infringed upon its intellectual property. 



  InterDigital--which develops mobile, video and artificial-intelligence technology--on Wednesday said the Dusseldorf Local Division of the Unified Patent Court ruled that the company was entitled to an injunction. It found Disney infringed upon an InterDigital patent covering technology that allows users to enjoy seamless viewing when sharing video content between different devices. 



  The judgement against Disney stands in Germany and the Netherlands, InterDigital said. Disney can appeal the decision. 



  The Dusseldorf's court judgement marks the third injunction that InterDigital has received from the UPC against Disney. The two previous injunctions both covered patents related to certain video encoding techniques related to high efficiency video coding, or HEVC. 



  "This patent-in-suit is another excellent example of how InterDigital shapes so much of the streaming experience, from the processing and distribution of video content to the overall user experience," InterDigital Chief Legal Officer Josh Schmidt said. 



  "InterDigital research powers a broad sweep of the streaming industry and by receiving a fair return for Disney's use of our technologies, we will be able to continue to invest in the next generation of foundational technologies," he added.
