Summary

Franklin Equity Income's manager team is seasoned but backed by standard resources. Matthew Quinlan, lead manager since November 2015, joined the firm a decade earlier and makes final portfolio decisions. He is joined by comanager Alan Muschott, who brings expertise in convertible securities, which typically claim about 5% of assets. Muschott has spent 26 years at the firm and currently serves as lead manager of two strategies focused on convertible securities, as well as a variable insurance products strategy. Todd Brighton, an expert in equity-linked notes stepped off this strategy in February 2024 as other duties pulled him toward another part of the firm. In August 2024, Quinlan added Dan Nuckles as a dedicated analyst; a two-decade financials analyst and sector head at the firm, Nuckles will keep those roles while he expands his expertise beyond financials. He will eventually help Quinlan vet ideas from across the firm’s central analyst pool of about 30.
