Analyst Note

On Sept. 24, 2024, subadvisor Wellington Management Company announced Gregg Thomas would step down as portfolio manager at Hartford Capital Appreciation effective Feb. 28, 2025. (Thomas will remain at Wellington.) Thomas is one of the fund's three named portfolio managers, all from Wellington's Fundamental Factor team. Tom Simon and Veenu Ramchandani, the other two managers, will remain in place. This group serves two roles. First, it oversees the (generally stable) allocation of five sleeves of the fund, all run by Wellington portfolio management teams. It also runs one of the sleeves, a risk-management approach that holds about 15% of fund assets. Ramchandani recently rose to become a named manager in March 2024. So, while Thomas is an experienced hand, his impending departure from the strategy doesn't alter its prospects: It receives the same amount of attention as before. Accordingly, its People rating of Average still applies.
