BlackBerry Shares Jump on New Robotics-Focused Partnership with AMD
By Adriano Marchese
Shares in BlackBerry were higher Tuesday morning after the company said it has partnered with chipmaking giant AMD to develop robotic systems.
In Toronto, shares were trading 8.4% higher at 4.24 Canadian dollars ($3.12).
Early Tuesday, the Canadian cybersecurity software company said the collaboration aims to design next-generation robotic systems that will focus on low-latency and lower levels of jitters, and repeatable determinism.
The two companies will work together to address robotics-focused hardware capabilities with a platform with the aim of delivering reliability, and scalability for robotic systems in industrial and healthcare, it said.
The platform combines BlackBerry's proprietary QNX software with AMD's hardware solutions.
"This combination enables sensor fusion, high-performance data processing, real-time control, industrial networking, and reduced latency in robotic applications," BlackBerry said.
