TotalEnergies Kicks Off Development of Ubeta Gas Field in Nigeria
By Elena Vardon
TotalEnergies began development of its Ubeta gas field, which will supply Nigeria LNG's liquefaction plant, it said.
The French energy company said Thursday the field, located in the OML 58 onshore license in Nigeria, will be developed with a new six-well cluster connected to the existing Obite facilities through an 11-kilometer, or 6.8-mile, buried pipeline.
Production is expected to start in 2027, with output plateauing at 300 million cubic feet a day, representing around 70,000 barrels of oil equivalent a day including condensates, it said. The gas will be supplied to liquefied natural gas-producer Nigeria LNG and its liquefaction plant on Bonny Island, it said.
"Ubeta fits perfectly with our strategy of developing low-cost and low-emission projects, and will contribute to the Nigerian economy through higher NLNG exports," Mike Sangster, senior vice president Africa, exploration & production at TotalEnergies, said.
The group operates the OML 58 license--in which it has a 40% interest--along with the Nigerian National Petroleum Corp., which owns the remaining 60%.
