Amazon Nears Elimination of Plastic Air Pillows in North America
By Colin Kellaher
Amazon.com on Thursday said it has nearly eliminated the use of plastic air pillows in its shipments, marking the online retail giant's largest reduction in plastic packaging in North America to date.
Amazon said it has replaced 95% of the plastic air pillows in its North America delivery packaging with recyclable paper filler made from 100% recycled content, adding that it is working toward full removal by the end of the year.
The Seattle company said the move will eliminate the use of nearly 15 billion plastic air pillows a year, and that nearly all of its Prime Day deliveries this year will be free of the pillows.
