Ahold Delhaize's Stop & Shop to Close 32 Underperforming Stores
By Colin Kellaher
Stop & Shop, the northeast U.S. supermarket chain owned by Dutch grocer Royal Ahold Delhaize, on Friday said it plans to close 32 underperforming stores.
Stop & Shop said it would still have more than 350 stores across its five-state footprint, adding that it will offer jobs to all workers affected by the closings.
Stop & Shop said the stores, which include five in Connecticut, eight in Massachusetts, 10 in New Jersey, seven in New York and two in Rhode Island, will close by Nov. 2.
In addition to Stop & Shop, Ahold Delhaize owns the Food Lion, Giant and Hannaford U.S. grocery chains.
