CSX Reaches Collective-Bargaining Agreements With Two More Unions

CSX said it reached tentative five-year collective-bargaining agreements with the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers's Mechanical Division and the American Train Dispatchers Association.

The Jacksonville, Fla., company said Thursday the agreements are subject to ratification by the unions' members.

The announcement comes a day after the company reached agreements with three unions -- the Transportation Communications Union, the Brotherhood of Railway Carmen and the International Association of Sheet Metal, Air, Rail and Transportation Workers's Transportation Division -- that represent about a quarter of the railroad's front-line union workers.

CSX said terms of the agreements mirror Wednesday's agreements, which included average pay increases of 3.5% a year and improved paid vacation and healthcare for workers on CSX system's Northern Mid-Atlantic District.

Separately, labor turmoil at Canada's railroads on Thursday resulted in the country ordering an end to a work stoppage at its two main railroads, saying an arbitrator would resolve disagreements between the companies and a Teamsters union that had disrupted freight traffic and supply chains across North America.
