Daimler Truck, Kawasaki Heavy Industries Team Up for Liquid Hydrogen Study
By Dominic Chopping
Daimler Truck and Kawasaki Heavy Industries joined forces to study liquid hydrogen supply chains as the renewable fuel starts to become more widely adopted as a clean energy source for transportation.
The German truck maker is developing the next-generation fuel cell trucks powered by liquefied hydrogen, while Kawasaki Heavy Industries is developing technologies to establish international hydrogen supply chains.
The two companies have now signed a memorandum of understanding that will see them jointly study liquid hydrogen supply options for the decarbonization of road freight transportation in Europe. The initiative includes the study of the entire supply chain for liquid hydrogen, including terminals, overseas shipping and large-scale storage.
"Besides providing the right trucks and buses, it is absolutely crucial to establish the supply and lower the costs of green hydrogen," said Daimler Truck Chief Executive Martin Daum.
