BJ's expands same-day delivery to big-ticket items such as outdoor furniture and TVs

Wholesaler's move is latest attempt by a retailer to get an edge on the competition
BJ's Wholesale Club Holdings Inc. said Tuesday it's expanding same-day delivery to include big-ticket items, including outdoor furniture, grills, televisions and more.
The Marlborough, Mass.-based company (BJ) said the service will be available to certain ZIP Codes that customers can check online and will be made in cooperation with the UPS-backed (UPS) company Roadie.
In return for a fee, members can enjoy same-day delivery of essentials, from groceries to outdoor furniture, at the same prices available in the club.
"Our goal is to provide as much value to our members as possible. With same-day delivery, we're able to not only provide competitive everyday low prices, but we can save members time by delivering the order in just a few hours," said Monica Schwartz, executive vice president and chief digital officer at BJ's.
The news comes when retailers are stretching to find ways to attract shoppers stressed by a long period of inflation, who have become highly selective in purchasing.
Many have taken to discounting items, especially essentials. Target (TGT), for example, is lowering prices on 5,000 items, Walmart (WMT) is running sales on 7,000 products and Amazon Fresh (AMZN) is discounting 4,000 grocery items.

BJ's said the move adds to its existing shopping options, including online at BJs.com, using its mobile app, digital coupons, in-club pickup, curbside pickup, same-day delivery and ExpressPay.
The expanded service has a 20-item per-transaction limit and is only available for purchases up to $750, it said.
BJ's stock was slightly lower Tuesday, but has gained 33% in the year to date, while the S&P 500 has gained 12%.
