ABB to Spend $280 Million to Modernize, Expand European Robotics Production

By Pierre Bertrand

ABB is to invest $280 million to expand the production capacity and modernize its European robotics hub in Sweden.

The investment will build a new integrated robotics campus at its existing site in Vasteras, replacing nine buildings dating from 1974, the Switzerland-based technology company said Wednesday.

Construction is expected to start next year and the new campus is expected open in late 2026, ABB said.

When completed, ABB will have spent $450 million in improvements to its three robotics facilities since 2018, including at its Asian site in Shanghai and its Auburn Hills facility that supports the Americas, it said.

The project in Sweden will expand ABB's production capacity by 50%, enabling it to better serve a growing European market, the company said.

The existing facility already manufactures around 95% of the robots ABB sells in Europe, Chief Executive Bjorn Rosengren said.
