BP, Iberdrola Greenlight Hydrogen Project in Spain
By Christian Moess Laursen
European energy majors BP and Iberdrola will start construction of a joint venture to develop a green-hydrogen project in Spain.
BP, the British energy giant, said Thursday that the two parties have taken the final investment decision on the 25-megawatt project that is expected to be operational in the second half of 2026.
The project will support the decarbonization of BP's refinery operations in Castellon, Spain, by preventing emission of 23,000 metric tons of carbon dioxide a year.
This is BP's first investment decision for an industrial scale project. The company said it is an important step forward for its hydrogen business.
