Renault EV Unit Ampere Says Battery Tech to Cut Costs by 20% From 2026
By David Sachs
Renault's electric-car subsidiary, Ampere, aims to cut the costs of batteries 20% from 2026 with a more streamlined battery setup as part of its bid to boost margins with less expensive production.
The French firm said Monday that it will use a so-called cell-to-pack assembly approach, which integrates lithium iron phosphate technology with the nickel cobalt manganese batteries currently used by the carmaker. The change will reduce battery costs by 20% starting in 2026, Ampere said.
"This decision is an effective and cutting-edge response to market volatility and change in technologies," Ampere said.
Ampere is working with suppliers LG Energy Solution and CATL on the battery tech, it said.
